Solar Energy Industries Association: Solar Means Business

The Solar Energy Industries Association (SEIA) is the national trade association for the U.S. solar industry. It aims to build a strong solar industry in the United States through policy advocacy, educational programming, and support for the 242,000 Americans working in the U.S. solar industry.

MISSION

Each year, SEIA tracks the ever-increasing rate at which U.S. companies are turning to solar energy as a cost-effective method for powering their businesses.

Too often, data vital to our economy is hidden inside seldom-shared and rarely opened PDFs and hard-to-reach websites. To solve this challenge, SEIA worked with LGND to bring the Solar Means Business report to life through a captivating digital story.

PROJECT IMPACT

This report tracks more than 7,000 megawatts (MW) of installed solar capacity across 35,000 projects in 43 states, representing more than 70% of all commercial solar capacity installed in the United States through 2018. Our team translated this data using sophisticated analytics and website development to create easy-to-understand interactive graphs and maps demonstrating change over time.

OUR PROCESS

LGND analyzed SEIA’s data to capture the stories of rising solar trends—including highest corporate solar utilization rates—and paired that information with thoughtful write-ups to further contextualize the findings.

Using SEIA’s proprietary data, we created a series of easy-to-navigate interactive modules designed to draw policymakers and media into the details of the research, engage businesses that want to invest in solar, and invite interested organizations to become SEIA members.

In addition, our team developed a site showcasing all of the digital assets created in one easily accessible hub. We also created the option to make elements of the digital story shareable across social media platforms.

LAUNCH

The Solar Means Business digital story went live on SEIA’s website on July 25, 2019. The interactive nature of LGND’s digital story design, along with the data visualization elements, served as an enticing story for well-known media outlets. The story was covered by industry publications as well as internationally acclaimed outlets like CNBC, Axios, Forbes, TechCrunch, Inverse, VentureBeat, and many more. The announcement was echoed by Amazon in a press release and promoted on social media by Apple CEO Tim Cook and top companies leading on solar like Prologis, Solvay, and Fifth Third Bank.
